[Update] Conflict Mineral and Ethical Sourcing Conference Hosted by Tetra Tech & Assent Compliance

Innovation doesn’t come from reinventing the wheel. It comes from taking that wheel and turning it in a new way to address your specific problem.

Industry leaders in the compliance sphere are innovators, not because they invented a new way of doing things, but because they took proven ideas and found new ways to implement them into their unique programs.

Together, Assent Compliance and Tetra Tech will gather those innovators in Chicago for the one-day conference at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare on December 3rd and we want you to be there.

Conflict Mineral Compliance

Earlier this year, Assent Compliance and Dr. Chris Bayer of Tulane University released the Conflict Mineral Benchmarking Study. It ranked all 1,267 U.S. filers in 2015 based on their overall compliance and best practice scores.

The study provided, for the first time, a comprehensive look at every U.S. filer’s conflict mineral compliance program in reporting year 2014. From that, the data was analyzed and trends identified that can be used to create and/or significantly improve compliance programs for any company.

The conference’s morning agenda delves deep into the study, discussing industry scores, good practice indicators and other insights revealed through in-depth data analysis.

Once those discussions are complete, join Theresa Jordan of Motorola, Josh Inman of Cummins, Mark Alexander of Plantronics, and Jerry Zabronsky of Kimberly Clark, in a panel discussion on conflict mineral compliance.

The panelists will discuss how they achieved their benchmarking study scores and share their best practices. They will talk about their expectations from non-filer suppliers in order to support their own compliance programs, and also their plans for future reporting years.

This panel discussion will prove invaluable for companies that know the requirements but struggle with implementation. These panelists are innovators and will spend an hour sharing their own personal insights into how companies can build strong conflict mineral compliance programs.

The Expanding Regulatory Horizon

Recent developments in China and the European Union with regards to conflict mineral regulations has compliance specialists asking the big question: What does this mean for me?

In some cases, the answer is nothing. In others, it could mean making adjustments to programs or implementing all new processes to deal with new regulations. We will provide updates on where China and the EU currently stand with their conflict mineral regulations and insights into where they could be going and what it means for you.

With China’s recently released conflict mineral guidelines, for example, it is important for U.S. companies to understand if and how they will be impacted. This and more will be covered by our guest speakers.

Anti-Human Trafficking & Modern Slavery

Ever since the now-infamous Costco legal action over human-trafficking in its supply chain, companies want to make sure they mitigate their risk.

The Conflict Mineral & Ethical Sourcing Workshop wraps up with an in-depth discussion on anti-human trafficking and slavery regulations in the United States and the United Kingdom. Specifically it looks at three laws: the Federal Acquisition Regulation, California’s Transparency in Supply Chains Act and the UK’s Modern Slavery Act 2015.

The human trafficking and modern slavery issue remains in the media spotlight. As such, companies will be strictly scrutinized for compliance with these three laws. It is of the utmost importance that compliance specialists understand their requirements under these laws and implement an efficient program.

The Conference Factor

As stated, innovation is finding new, unique ways to implement proven ideas. The best way to learn and understand those ideas and to find inspiration for your own compliance program, is to meet and discuss with your peers.

Attending this conference not only gives you access to an expert-filled lineup of guest speakers and panelists, but it also affords you the time to network and have those discussions with industry leaders and innovators.

Your peers can often be your best resource. While their solutions might not be a perfect fit for your compliance program, they may provide the insight you need to build your unique plan.

Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with a dynamic group of compliance professionals. You’ll leave with new ideas that can have an immediate, positive impact on your compliance program.
